Foreign plants Hyundai and Kia partially resume work
The management of South Korean companies Hyundai and Kia resumed work in most of their foreign factories. This is reported by Yonhap. The Hyundai plant in Brazil and the Kia plant in Mexico have yet to recover their operations because sales on cars have fallen and warehouses are overcrowded because of coronavirus. Other foreign factories of automakers are already operating, although they have not fully resumed production, the representative of the automobile company said. Hyundai and Kia restarted their plants in the United States last week. Mexico's Kia plant is expected to resume production this week and Brazil's Hyundai plant will be suspended until May 26. Hyundai owns 10 foreign factories four in China and one each in the United States, Czech Republic, Turkey, Russia, India and Brazil, as well as seven factories in South Korea. These enterprises produce a total of 5.5 million cars per year. Kia has seven overseas factories three in China and one each in the United States, Slovakia, Mexico and India, as well as eight South Korean factories. Their total capacity is 3.84 million cars per year. We remind that Hyundai and Kia have stopped work at their enterprises since March. From January to April 2020, Hyundai and Kia sold a total of 1,845,406 vehicles, down 19% from sales figures from the same period last year.
