IAEA head praises agreement with Iran

On 21 September, the Director General of the Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, again welcomed the agreement reached between IAEA and Iran, expressing the hope that it would strengthen cooperation and mutual trust. This was reported by the Iranian agency IRNA. Grossi made such remarks at the 64th regular session of the IAEA General Conference. I regularly report to the Governing Council on Iran's compliance with its nuclear obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Grossi said. The Agency continues to verify the presence of nuclear material declared by Iran in accordance with the safeguards agreement, he said. Grossey then referred to his last visit to Tehran when he met with President Hassan Rouhani and reached an agreement to resolve the dispute over the implementation of guarantees. Subsequently, the agency gained expanded access in accordance with the Additional Protocol. Our inspectors took environmental samples, which will be analyzed in the near future. Additional access to the second said facility will be made later this month, Rafael Grossi said.
