In Georgia, called for the release of political prisoner Rurua
In Georgia, 19 opposition parties demanded that the authorities release the co-owner of the Mtavari channel, Archie Georgy Rurua. A joint statement was issued on 2 July. Opposition representatives pointed out that the release of Rurua is a fundamentally important issue. The address also notes the role of the opposition and the international community in the fact that the ruling Georgian Dream party adopted amendments to the country's Constitution on electoral reform in parliament. According to opposition representatives, this was done contrary to the will of the leader of the ruling party, Bidzina Ivanishvili. Thanks to the efforts of political parties, citizens of Georgia, activists and the help of international friends, Bidzina Ivanishvili himself had to adopt such amendments that make it possible to hold proportional elections, the statement said. Recall that Rurua was detained by the police on charges of illegally carrying weapons. The opposition declares his innocence and calls him a political prisoner.
